As cities prepare for the worst, Alina, Kai, and Lyssara form an unlikely alliance. Through Lyssara, Alina learns that the mermaids’ uprising began after human pollution poisoned vast stretches of their habitat, sparking unrest and empowering Sirenox to rally his people around vengeance. This revelation forces the humans to confront their role in the impending conflict, even as military forces mobilize to defend coastal borders.
When the invasion finally begins, the mermaids unleash bioluminescent energy waves that disable naval fleets and send shockwaves through major ports. Alina leads a desperate effort to translate Lyssara’s warnings into a plan to disrupt the attackers’ deep-sea communication network.
