Street Fighter Live Action Movie (2025) | First Trailer

The new Street Fighter movie is a live‑action reboot, co‑produced by Legendary Entertainment and Capcom, directed by Kitao Sakurai.  It is set in 1993, capturing the retro feel of the era when Street Fighter II made its mark, and the story centers on the legendary fighters Ryu and Ken Masters. The film is scheduled for release on October 16, 2026 in the U.S., under distribution by Paramount Pictures under a multi‑year deal with Legendary.

The plot begins as Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken (Noah Centineo) are estranged—each on his own path—when they are recruited by Chun‑Li (Callina Liang) to enter the “World Warrior Tournament,” a brutal competition drawing fighters from around the globe.  Each contestant brings personal history and burden into the ring; the tournament is not just about skill and strength but about confronting past demons, rivalries, and fate itself.

Behind the tournament lies a deeper, more sinister conspiracy tied to the tournament’s organizer or underlying power structure. The film teases that there’s more at stake than just fights—that corruption, betrayal, and hidden agendas will force fighters to not only battle each other but also the shadows of their past.

The ensemble cast is large and includes many iconic characters from the Street Fighter game franchise: Jason Momoa as Blanka, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, and David Dastmalchian as M. Bison among others. Their characters each bring signature fighting styles, personalities, and—presumably—individual arcs.

Given the setting and the cast, the film seems designed to balance faithful homage to the games (especially Street Fighter II: The World Warrior) with cinematic stakes: big fights, dramatic tension, character development, and spectacle. Because it is a reboot, it aims to reintroduce characters rather than rely on past movie versions.

By its ending, we can expect the movie to resolve the tournament arc, reveal the core conspiracy, possibly set up rivalries (for example Ryu vs Ken or Ryu vs other fighters), and restore or make clear the roles of villains like M. Bison and Akuma. While it hasn’t been confirmed, there’s potential setup for sequels or spin‑offs with this wide cast and global tournament format. The movie is still in production as of mid‑2025.
