Nearly a decade after their life-changing holiday, Amanda and Iris are both settled into happiness — but also into routines they never expected would feel quite so… predictable. When Amanda’s tenth anniversary with Graham approaches, she decides to surprise him with something bold: a return to the old house in Surrey and a chance to relive the magic that started it all. Meanwhile, Iris, now a successful screenwriter in Los Angeles, feels the stirrings of restlessness she cannot explain and agrees to join Amanda for a nostalgic reunion in England, unaware that the trip will turn both their lives upside down once again.
The two friends arrive to discover that their beloved holiday swap has inadvertently been booked by someone else — a charming, slightly chaotic travel photographer named Ben, who has no idea who they are but instantly brings warmth and humor into their stay. At first, Amanda is irritated, Iris is amused, and Ben is embarrassingly apologetic, but when a sudden snowstorm traps all three at the remote cottage, they have no choice but to coexist… and quickly discover that old friendships have room to grow in new directions.
As the days melt into long conversations, shared stories, and late-night cooking disasters, Amanda feels sparks she thought long extinguished — not romantic ones, but a reminder of the adventurous, open-hearted person she used to be before adulthood wrapped her in comfort and responsibility. Iris, too, begins to question her own assumptions about love and creativity when Ben challenges her to see her work — and her heart — through fresh eyes.
Back home, Graham senses something is missing even before Amanda confesses she feels “stuck.” His honesty surprises her: he’s been feeling it too, afraid to admit that comfort can sometimes dull the joy you once fought to find. Their heartfelt conversation becomes the emotional center of the film, proving that love is not a static achievement but a living choice.
When the storm finally clears, Amanda and Iris must make decisions — not about who to love or where to live, but about how to stay alive to possibility without losing what they cherish. Ben, ever the wanderer, teaches them both that stepping outside one’s own story does not mean abandoning it.
In the end, Amanda returns to Graham with renewed purpose and a promise to keep their life surprising again. Iris returns to Los Angeles inspired and open to whatever — or whoever — might come next. And Ben… well, Ben keeps traveling, leaving behind friendships that feel like the beginning of something rather than the end.
The film closes on the cottage at sunset, warm light glowing through the windows, reminding us that sometimes the greatest holiday is not where you go, but who you become when you get there.
