Crawl (2019) follows Haley Keller, a young competitive swimmer who becomes trapped in the middle of a devastating Category 5 hurricane hitting Florida. When she receives a concerned call from her sister, Haley decides to check on her estranged father, Dave, who isn’t answering his phone. Ignoring evacuation orders, she drives into the storm and finds their old family home nearly abandoned, the streets flooded, and the winds beginning to reach dangerous strength.

Inside the house, Haley discovers the family dog, Sugar, but no sign of Dave. Her search leads her to the crawl space beneath the house, where she finds her father unconscious and badly injured. As she attempts to pull him to safety, she realizes that the cause of his wounds is still lurking in the darkness: a massive alligator that has slipped into the crawl space through the flooding. Before she can escape, a second alligator appears, cutting off their exit and trapping them underground as the water level rapidly rises.

Haley and Dave are forced to rely on their wits, physical strength, and strained but unbroken bond to survive. They repeatedly attempt dangerous escapes—using pipes, debris, and Haley’s swimming skills—to stay ahead of the rising water and the predators that circle them with relentless patience. Outside, the hurricane intensifies, tearing apart buildings and washing in more deadly creatures from nearby waterways.

Throughout their ordeal, the film explores the father–daughter relationship, revealing Dave’s regrets about their family and Haley’s lingering resentment over years of pressure and emotional distance. Their life-or-death circumstances force them to confront these old wounds even as they fight to stay alive. Each small victory is followed by new dangers—collapsing structures, shattered windows, and alligators that break through barriers they once thought safe.

As the crawl space completely floods, Haley and Dave make a final escape attempt through the storm-battered house and onto the rising water outside. Injured, exhausted, and nearly swept away, they battle both the raging hurricane and the last of the alligators in a desperate push for survival. Haley’s determination and training become their final lifeline.

In the end, they manage to pull themselves onto a rooftop as rescue helicopters arrive. Though battered and shaken, Haley and her father share a moment of understanding and reconciliation, having survived not only the storm and the predators—but the emotional distance that had long separated them.
