Ghost Rider (2025) reignites the supernatural antihero with a darker, more mythic storyline that blends vengeance, hellfire, and the weight of cursed destiny. The film begins with Johnny Blaze living in isolation far from the world he once protected, having suppressed the Ghost Rider for years. Haunted by nightmares of a coming inferno, he travels from town to town trying to outrun the demon inside him. But when a violent cult known as the Ashen Covenant begins performing rituals that tear open breaches between Earth and the underworld, Johnny realizes he can no longer hide.
The cult’s goal is to summon an ancient entity called Malakar, a demon older than Hell itself whose rebirth would plunge humanity into eternal night. Their attacks leave behind burning sigils and victims whose souls have been extracted, signs that only the Ghost Rider can decipher. Johnny reluctantly seeks answers from a mysterious young woman named Aria, the last known guardian of an ancient grimoire that details Malakar’s history and the prophecy tied to the Rider’s existence. Aria knows that the only way to stop the demon is for Johnny to fully embrace the spirit he fears.

As the breaches widen, hellfire storms erupt in cities, and creatures slip into the mortal world, stalking those connected to the prophecy. Johnny struggles with control each time the Rider emerges, his transformation more violent and unpredictable than ever. Aria trains him to channel the curse, revealing that the Rider was never meant to be a weapon of destruction but a barrier that stands between realms. With each encounter against the cult’s monstrous creations, Johnny becomes more aware of the power he has avoided for so long.
Their journey leads them to the ruins of an abandoned cathedral where the Covenant gathers for the final ritual. Shadows twist into living shapes, flames coil like serpents, and Malakar’s presence distorts reality itself. Johnny must face the truth buried in the prophecy: only a Rider who accepts both the human and demonic sides of his soul can imprison Malakar again. The cathedral becomes a battleground of fire and darkness as Johnny unleashes the full wrath of the Ghost Rider.

In the climax, Johnny uses the Penance Stare not to punish, but to bind, channeling the collective suffering of the lost souls the cult murdered. Malakar is dragged back into the void, but the act leaves Johnny scorched and barely alive. When the dust settles, the breaches close, and Aria ensures the grimoire is sealed once more.
As dawn rises, Johnny rides into the horizon, flames dim but still burning, aware that the curse he carries is no longer just a burden—it is a duty he can no longer refuse.
